Farmer's Market move
The Fairfax Farmer's Market will open for the season on Wednesday, June 14th, in a new location, Bolinas Park, at the corner of Bolinas and Elsie Lane. The Town Council approved this new location at the request of the Market. This is an opportunity for the Farmer's Market to expand to include more vendors and for everyone to enjoy the beautiful setting of the park. By locating closer to the central downtown business core, shoppers will be able to conveniently enjoy the many shops and restaurants the downtown has to offer on their visit to the Market. The Fairfax Farmer's Market is open 4 - 8 p.m. starting Wednesday, June 14th through October. For more information, contact the Marin County Farmers Market Association at 472-6100.

Earthquake video
Recently, there was a conference held on the 100th Anniversary of the 1906 Earthquake. There is an interesting 14-minute video on "The Next Great Quake" available for viewing on the conference website www.1906eqconf.org. It is a reality check on how we need to be prepared and what the consequences of another big earthquake could be if it happened right now. I encourage you to watch it.

Photos for website
Do you have any good non-copyrighted photos of Fairfax? It would be nice to refresh the photos on the home page of our website. If you have any great photos depicting the Fairfax that we all know and love, and you would offer your digital photos at no charge for us to post on the website, I'd certainly appreciate you sending them on to me. I will give you credit on my blog and my most heartfelt thanks!
Meditation Garden coming soon!
A note from our Public Works Director, Debra Sue Johnson:
Sir Francis Drake High School students will be installing a meditation garden between the Youth Center and the Creek as part of the ROC program. This project is part of the "Art is Everywhere" program in which students create a piece of art and give it back to the community. The students are Becca Zauderer, Dylan Jones, and Rio Helmy.

They will be starting this weekend with rototilling and soil enriching. The design includes three red leaf Japanese maples, flowering plants and shrubs, flagstone paths, benches, and ground cover. They are creating a Van Gogh-like painting to hang in the garden and will also be incorporating a bird bath into the environment. All of the supplies and materials have been donated by Marin County businesses. There will be a grand opening organized and marketed by the students in the very near future.
We have agreed to be the hosts of this wonderful creation with watering to be done by Town Hall staff and volunteers and maintenance to be done by the Public Works Department.
Open Space Fundraiser
This Saturday, May 13th from 5:00 - 10:30 p.m., the Fairfax Open Space Committee will host its second Fundraiser. Tickets for the event are $20 and it will be held at the Fairfax Women's Club, 46 Park Road.
The event will feature great music by Otis Scarecroe with the Tom Finch Group, plus great food, drink and a raffle. This is a great opportunity to support the community and to help pay for the purchase of this beautiful property.

Information on Potential Influenza Pandemic
On April 27th, the Marin County Operational Disaster and Citizens Corp Council held a special meeting on the topic of the potential pandemic influenza. This could be the next big disaster that strikes and we need to take the warnings seriously. Doug Smith of our office attended the meeting and took notes which are now posted on the Disaster Preparedness web page, at the bottom of the page where the document links are.
