Documents posted

A few days ago, these documents were posted for public review on the Council packet page:
  • Agreement for Interim Attorney Services
  • Draft Budget for FY 06-07
Click here for the reports http://www.townoffairfax.org/TownCouncil/TownCouncilPacket/

These items will be considered at a meeting tomorrow, Saturday, July 1st at 9:30 a.m. in the Women's Club. Note that the budget will not be adopted tomorrow. This will be a high level overview presentation to the Council of the major impacts to revenues and expenditures for the upcoming fiscal year. We will subsequently schedule another budget hearing at a date/time to be determined. Please feel free to contact me if you have any budget questions.

Goodbye electric car

If you have grown fond of seeing this practical, cute, and non-polluting electric car around town, you are not alone. We all love our electric car, driven by our dedicated Community Services Officer, Cynthia Powell, on her rounds to check on parking situations and other public safety assignments. The car was given to us to use by Nissan and is a prototype. Nissan is taking these cars back from the towns in Marin that they were loaned to and will not let us keep them (we tried to buy it from them but they won't let us). We are looking to replace our electric car with another right-hand drive electric vehicle that CSO Powell can use, but so far have not been able to find one comparable to this Nissan. If you know of any suitable vehicles, please pass along the information to us. We have to give this car back next week.

Budget Workshop

A special Town Council meeting is scheduled for Saturday, July 1st at 9:30 a.m. in the Women's Club at 46 Park Road. On the agenda is:
  • Consideration of an agreement for Interim Town Attorney Services with Richards, Watson and Gershon
  • Budget Workshop - Review of draft Town of Fairfax budget for Fiscal Year 2006-07
  • Closed session for performance evaluation of the Town Manager

I will be presentating the Town's draft budget for the new fiscal year starting July 1, 2006. This will be the first of at least two public meetings on the proposed budget, and you are welcome to attend, listen to my explanation of estimated revenues and expenditures, and provide input. We may even have some refreshments.

Measure K Oversight Committee

A meeting of the Measure K Oversight Committee will be held on Tuesday, June 27th at 7:00 p.m. in the Volunteer Office located at the Community Center/Youth Center, 16 Park Road. Measure K is our road, drainage, infrastructure and facility improvement bond passed by the voters in 1999, and we are issuing the third in the series of bonds this July-August, which will mean $1.7M dedicated to public works projects in our town over the next three-year period. The meeting is to discuss funding priorities for the upcoming 2006-07 Fiscal Year and is open to the public.

Join us for 4th of July!

Come celebrate the words that made us great by joining in a public reading of the Declaration of Independence and the Bill of Rights on Independence Day, July 4th, at Noon under the redwood trees in Peri Park. Everyone is invited and refreshments will be served. See the flyer, a pdf document, for more information. This was an idea of Council Member Mary Ann Maggiore, which was wholeheartedly endorsed by the Council. This has been a tradition in Council Member Maggiore's family for some time and we are excited to be celebrating our history and our liberties by joining in this tradition. Everyone is welcome to participate in reading sections of these documents aloud at the event. We will have copies of the documents, a book raffle, lemonade and cookies. Look for the balloons near the stage at Peri Park.

Farmer's Market

The Farmer's Market opened in a new location we are trying out this summer, Bolinas Park. Some folks remarked to me that it felt like a continued celebration of the Festival, and I agreed! The eating area was under the redwood trees and there was music and children's activities. We did have a few sprinkles of rain but all in all it was a great opening for the Market. Here are a few photos I took from my cell phone. See you there next Wednesday!

Welcome Officer Robert Sutherland

Please join me in welcoming our newest Police Officer to the Town, Robert Sutherland. Robert worked for five years at Home Depot in San Rafael before deciding to put himself through the police academy at his own expense in order to launch a career in law enforcement. While in the academy, he tested with the Town and came out #1 on our eligibility list, and we were very fortunate that he decided to join us. He is currently in his 13 week field training program. Robert resides in Sonoma County but has strong ties to the Ross Valley as his father grew up here, and his grandparents still reside in Sleepy Hollow. I had the honor of giving him the oath of office at the last Council meeting. Welcome, Officer Sutherland!
